Ingredients for the dough: 2.5 cups all-purpose flour; 4 teaspoons sugar; 1/4 teaspoon fine salt; 14 tablespoons cold butter, diced; 1 large egg, lightly beaten with 2 tablespoons cold water. Ingredients for filling: 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice; 3 pounds baking apples like Golden Delicious, Cortland, or Mutsu; 2/3 cup sugar, plus more for sprinkling on the pie; 1/4 cup unsalted butter; 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon; generous pinch of ground nutmeg; 1 large egg, lightly beaten.

I didn't want to admit that Fall was on its way until this morning, when these new jackets by Velvet arrived at the store. This afternoon, my thoughts are filled with winter scenes of me walking around the city, sipping hot cocoa and wearing this black cropped fur jacket... and images of me ice skating in this stunning leopard belted coat while soft sprinkles of snow fall (and I suddenly know how to skate like a pro). I am now envisioning all the cold weather activities and seasonal parties that will of course require my arrival in nothing less glamorous than a fur... Those will be the days. I enjoy a Mint Julep as much as the next MJ girl, but a 4th of July barbeque would not be complete without SANGRIA! As you're planning your own menu for this weekend's festivities, here is a recipe for white sangria I'm excited to share with you!
Ingredients: 2 bottles dry white wine; 3/4 cup brandy; 1/2 cup triple sec; 3/4 cup simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heat until sugar dissolves); 3/4 cup passion fruit puree; 3 oranges, sliced into thin rounds; 3 green apples, cored and sliced thin; 2 lemons, sliced into thin rounds. Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher. Refrigerate covered at least 3 hours. Serve over ice. Enjoy!

If you've stopped into Mint Julep recently or followed our blog at all this summer, you surely know by now that all the Julep girls love having a lot of color in their life-- whether it's the outfits we wear or the colorful props in our windows (you've seen the beach balls, I hope!) we love everything bright and cheerful about the summer season. Incorporating some art into my day away from Mint Julep yesterday, I took myself to the MFA to see the Chihuly exhibit, an incredible display of glass blown sculptures by Dale Chihuly, one of the world's most famous and innovative glass blowers. The imaginative, colorful forms and mind-blowing displays look like a fantasy that's come alive. If you find yourself with some free time, stop at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to see it for yourself!

It may or may not be my Pennsylvanian roots, but there's nothing that makes me happier than a visit to one of our local farmer's markets. It's really a highlight of my summer days here in the Square. Lucky for me, the Charles Square Farmer's Market is every Friday afternoon and there is a second market in the Harvard courtyard every Tuesday all the way until October!

Cambridge Farmers Markets supply you with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables that are locally grown and great to bring home!
