One Shoulder is Better Than Two!

This Summer, it's high time to let your shoulder make an appearance: the season's hottest dress trend is flirty without raising too many eyebrows.

Betony Toht from INSTYLE magazine reports:

"Hollywood's hottest stars have been showing some serious scaps in single-strap gowns with goddess appeal. Stylist Philip Bloch considers the asymmetrical look an elegant, sophisticated one that flatters all body types: "By baring a shoulder, you can be sexy without being tawdry or cheap." Bloch recommends limiting accessories to face-framing earrings or a simple bracelet. "If the single strap is very thin," he says, "then you can go for a choker, like Keira Knightley at the Oscars." And when the temperature drops, he suggests skipping a plain wrap and choosing a cover-up that shows off the look's asymmetry: "When you juxtapose a one-shoulder gown with a jacket or V-neck, you can play with weird angles for a cutting-edge look."

Here at Mint Julep, we have a bevy of frocks in striking shades of flame red, tangerine, and citron yellow that are right on target with the trend! Our newest favorite is a navy blue Tibi one-shouldered dress with an eye-catching multi-colored sequin shoulder design.
Don't be shy, ladies, let those shoulders show!

Kirribilla!

Aren't these Kirribilla dresses some of the most beautiful? We just started carrying the line this Spring, and it's been quite the sensation. The brand consists of a fabulous design trio who have studios in both San Francisco and London. The girls behind these fabulous creations say they draw inspirations from their travels all around the world, and what they have come up with is a collection that is whimsical, feminine and above all, unique.

I've just added a bunch of Kirribilla pieces to our online shop, and we have them in all three stores as well. Why not try one out for your next big event of the summer?

Pictured above, from top to bottom: the "Cate" in White, the "Tinsley" in Mint, and the "Abby" in Red.

Time to Accessorize!

Mint Julep Ludlow has just finished with a major summer accessory restocking session. We've got new watches, earrings, hair clips, umbrellas - you name it and we've got it.

These Zebra earrings are my personal faves. Seriously, how adorable are they?

Got a craving for more? Stop in and say hello - we're always glad to see you!

Yay! Yay! for CCMA!

Bear with me people while I dork-out for a minute. I just got back from my once-monthly Coolidge Corner Merchants Association (CCMA) meeting and I am PUMPED!!! For starters, the CCMA is getting an award for "business of the year" from the Chamber of Commerce this year. Now, you might say: "but the CCMA isn't a business" and that is true! This is the first time the Chamber has honored a group of businesses instead of an individual and we are all very pleased. Why did we get chosen? Because the CCMA has been putting on fun events in Coolidge Corner for years! Anybody go to "Potterpalooza?" yeah, that was us. But this is not really why I'm pumped (that was just a little back-patting). I am REALLY excited because there is so much fun stuff going on in Coolidge Corner this summer! We are taking a page from the JP book of summer fun and starting a series called the Coolidge Corner Summer Stroll. Businesses in CC will be open late and there will be music on the streets, tasty things to eat and drink and a general air of frivolity and summery-ness (yes, that's a word. I just made it so). Pair those strolls with the annual SIDEWALK SALE and you get one cool place to hang out: COOLIDGE CORNER!!!!
- stay tuned. details on the way!

Charming!

Fresh out of Pistachio's humongous green suitcase that always comes packed with goodies, these vintage bauble charm bracelets are a perfect summer accessory. Each one-of-a-kind bracelet has a different color scheme, so stop into the Julep to pick out your fave! OR do like Hannah and wear them all!

Add Some Sparkle!

These Deepa Gurnani headbands are really something special. The label was founded by Deepa Gurnani, who beaded couture pieces for Alexander McQueen, Emanuel Ungaro and Fendi, and Jay Lakhani, a jeweller who trained under the head designers at Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari. These stunners gained popularity in Europe (check out this article on Vogue.com: http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/daily/091119-deepa-gurnani-headbands.aspx) and now they are right here at Mint Julep!

Go over the top with a thicker beaded band or add just a touch of sparkle. We've got a bunch of different styles to show you, so stop in and check them out!

Leaping for Lavender!

So yesterday was my day off, and in typical girly fashion, my roommates and I went to get our nails done. I usually stay to the warm pinks and subtle nude tones...but in an inspired moment of complete adventure, I grabbed the latest pastel from O.P.I.'s summer collection, called "Rumples Wiggin"...A bright lavendar tone with a cool pink glow. Today, while unpacking the latest goodies from the Mint Julep mailman, I'm finding that pretty purple everywhere...

Here is my fresh mani, the perfect compliment to my new vintage cocktail ring from Pistachio!

This fabulous frock arrived from Milly today...a handmade necklace holds the halter up!

From JPK Paris, the basic bucket bag in a lovely shade of lavender:

An assortment of our basic tees from Velvet, LA Made, Splendid and Alternative Apparel. Perfect for summer layering!

Aunt Sadie's subtle scent for a fresh springtime smell:
And finally, JoJo of Boston's painted shell necklace in a vibrant hue!

Stop in soon to get your own purple pieces wrapped up in a little lavender bag :)

Dessert fit for a true Mint Julep girl!

With all the sunshine we've been having and Memorial Day just around the corner, it looks like it's time to pull out the recipe for my very favorite summertime dessert!

Ingredients:
20 oreo cookies (40 halves), fillings discarded, cookies crushed
5 Tbsp butter, melted
3/4 cup hot milk
24 large marshmallows
1/4 cup creme de menthe liqueur
2 tablespoons white creme de cacao
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
Optional: A drop or two of green food dye

Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 425°F. In a bowl, mix crushed oreo cookie halves and butter. Pat into bottom and sides of 10 inch pie dish. Bake in oven for 5 to 10 minutes; remove from oven and cool completely. Once cooled, place in freezer to chill.
2. In saucepan, melt marshmallows in milk over medium heat. Remove from heat and cool. Add creme de menthe and creme de cacao, and mix well. Add a drop or two of green food dye if desired. Fold in whipped cream. Pour into chilled pie shell. Freeze for 3 or 4 hours.

Serves 8. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
